Abstract

The purpose of this research is to stress the necessity of death education in nursing study through surveying nursing students¡¯ attitude towards death.
This research is based on random electives who participated in the survey: the survey reveals nursing students¡¯ attitude towards death, and was done through cross-sectional approach.
Results:
1.The results revealed similarity upon "semester", among the general characteristics. Students on their seventh semester were more positive towards death than students on their fifth semester; junior students average points was 63.70 (¡¾7.459); those of seniors was 68.40 (¡¾7.536).
2.There were similarities among the following questions of attitude towards death: ¡®anxieties about death¡¯ (F=6.866, p=.000) ¡®personal meaning of death¡¯ (F=3.609, p=.015) ¡®the people who you would like at your death bed¡¯ (F=2.556, p=.031) ¡®the prospect of testament¡¯ (F=4.005, p=.009) ¡®the sense you feel when thinking about death¡¯ (F=5.209, p=.001).
3.There was no noticeable difference between people who received death education, 66.73(¡¾7.469)and those who did not, 64.35(¡¾8.033). (t=.588, p=.095).
Conclusion: In this research, education of death barely made any difference of students¡¯ attitude towards death compared to those who did not receive the education. It is a fact, however, that various researches show different results about the effects of death education. Therefore, continuous study about the correlation between death education and attitude towards death is strongly recommended.
